New Gear Day: Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L

EF 24-105mm f4 L
iPhone shot of the new glass.

I watched a digitalrev shootout the other day between a cheap camera with a good lens and a pimp camera with a shitty lens. As a result, I decided to finally take the plunge and get some L glass. It's a lot bigger than I expected, completely dwarfing my t1i (D500).

As I just swooped in to the UPS office to pick it up today, I haven't really had too much of a chance to play with it yet. One thing I will say is that for an f/4 lens, the bokeh is stonking great.

A couple of crappy shots after the jump.

Simple Crustless Quiche Lorraine

IMG_1552

There used to be a real stigma about quiche back in the 80s. You know what? Fuck them. It's great stuff. If you're not a low-carb person, this recipe can also be used for a quiche with a crust - just substitue a couple of frozen pie crusts for the cake pans. Thanks to HMB for the original recipe.

Recipe after the jump.

Braised Chicken Thighs with Porcini in Garlic Sage Cream Sauce

IMG_1539

When it comes to fowl, I've always been a fan of dark meat. It's also a good fit if you're trying to eat low carb. It looks a little sloppy, but it's really good. If you're not doing the low-carb thing, I think it would make an excellent sauce for pasta.

How to after the jump.
